Our Philosophy
We Latino Firefighters of New Jersey believe in the Democratic principle of individuals, political religious and sexual freedom, the right of equality of social and economic opportunity and in the cooperative endeavor toward the development of an American society wherein the cultural resources , integrity and dignity of every individual and group constitute basic assets of the American way of life.
We believe that as American Latino Firefighters we must assume our duties and responsibilities and assert our rights and privileges in the pursuit of the highest possible quality of fire protection for all our prospective communities. We believe that training and education are the foundation for attaining the highest quality of fire protection in the communities in which we serve. We must secure the respect of our Fire Departments for the cultural resources we bring to the Fire service. We must deplore any infringement on our rights as Americans or our respective Fire Departments wherever it may occur and regardless of whom it may affect. We accept that it is not only the privilege of serving as firefighters in the public service but the obligation of every member of the Professional Latino Firefighters of New Jersey to uphold and defend the rights and duties vested in every American citizen by the letter and the spirit of the law of this great land.
Our Goals
- To use all constitutional means at our disposal to secure the rights of Latino Firefighters.
- To foster quality training and education so that we may thereby equip ourselves for the efficient discharge of our duties and responsibilities to the communities which we serve and the public which we swore to protect.
- To become extraordinarily fluent in the English language, but at the same time exerting equal effort to foster the fluent mastery of the Spanish language which is part of our heritage and a means of exerting our cultural horizons.
- To constitute our Association into an organization to actively promote fire safety and foster suitable measures that seek to enhance the influence and community respect for the Latino Firefighter, and to establish cooperative relations with our civic and Government institutions and agencies.
- To exert our united efforts to uphold the rights guaranteed to every individuals by our nation and the laws and to assure justice and equal treatment under these laws.
- To combat with every means all un-American tendencies and actions that deprive us as American citizens our rights in the work place, educational institutions, in economical pursuits and in social, civic and political activities.
- To promote and encourage the education of our communities youth and adults.
- To make use of every communication at our disposal and to exert our combined efforts to promote the principles of the Association, and augment its influence and numerical growth, AND TO ALWAYS BE PROUD OF BEING ALATINO FIREFIGHTER IN AMERICA!
