LLANJ Board of Delegates
Juan Garcia
I am Juan Garcia and my mother and father are originally from Cuba and I was born and raised in Washington Heights, in Manhattan, NY. I have four children and three grandkids, with two more grandkids expected this year.
I am a Police Detective with the Port Authority of NY & NJ Police Department and I have been in law enforcement for 16 years, including the last 6 as a Detective. I am certified by the NYPD as a Homicide Investigator and by the FBI as a Hostage & Crisis Negotiator. I proudly serve the Hispanic Police Officers as President of the Port Authority Police Hispanic Society.
Society: The Port Authority Police Hispanic Society was formed for the Hispanic police officers could have a voice to address their concerns as Hispanic officers. I am one of the original founders of the society, which was founded and incorporated in September 1994.
I served as the Vice President from September 1994 until May 1996. I took over as President when our then President became ill and held the title of President until March 2001. During this time period we filed a lawsuit against the Port Authority of NY & NJ due to a lack of promotional opportunities for Hispanics, harsher disciplinary actions against Hispanics then for non-Hispanics and the lack of proper Hispanic representation in accordance to the Affirmative Action Program.
I was re-elected President in April 2008 and I am very fortunate to have an Executive Board that is dedicated, motivated and have no hidden agendas and have set our goals to take the society to a higher level.
Last year we had the highest ever total of 97 members and during the year we had two very successful events. Our Annual Cigar Night Out is our Scholarship fundraiser and we had 154 guests attend. Our Scholarship Dinner Dance was attended by 276 guests, which included our four (4) Scholarship recipients and nine other Hispanic fraternal organizations.
